  5. PURPOSE
  6.  
  7. The purpose of the GEN_TAFEL message echo is to provide a forum
  8. for submitting, viewing, and/or discussing genealogical ancestor table
  9. information.  SysOps and BBS users are encouraged to provide as much
  10. information (in tiny tafel format) to this message echo as possible in
  11. order to promote research; provide names of individuals who are doing
  12. research on similar surnames during similar timeframes in the same
  13. general location.

  15. MESSAGE RULES
  16.  
  17. Messages in this echo must conform with standard rules whereby messages
  18. which contain inflammatory information (flames), personal information, any
  19. personal attacks, and deliberate lack of topic (e.g. - For Sale in this
  20. echo), any of which may be construed as annoying to one or more persons
  21. will result in serious consideration for or actual removal of the source
  22. node from the echo.  This echo will be monitored by the moderator, Mike Young
  23. of OGS*Kintracers, 1:250/305.

  25. Messages should be in English if possible, but there are no general
  26. restrictions on language.  Tafel information should be provided in the
  27. standard TT file format. Messages should be kept to an absolute minimum,
  28. but are not strictly discouraged.  Keep in mind that other echoes are
  29. available for any associated query internationally.  Also, there is
  30. no mandatory requirement to receive this echo, so queries in the echo
  31. may never reach their intended target.

  33. MESSAGE DISTRIBUTION

  35. Submitted tafel information is available for free distribution by any
  36. means unless the submitter expressly prohibits the transfer. By this we
  37. mean that the tafels may be collected together by any party and distributed
  38. in any means, including publication, electronic transmission and on media
  39. such as diskette and CD Rom. The intent is for the data to be as widely
  40. distributed as possible. BBS's are encouraged to collect the data for
  41. downloading or local searching on their systems. We do NOT however suggest
  42. that you include this data in any TMS database as TMS is designed to work for
  43. tiny tafels entered directly to your system by local callers.

  45. INTERNATIONAL MESSAGES
  46.  
  47. This is a worldwide echo in and as such, the echo may concern tafels
  48. submitted by persons in any country in the world.  Note that this is
  49. tafel oriented echo, and messages should concern Tiny Tafels specifically.

  51. MAKING CONTACT WITH OTHERS REGARDING TINY TAFELS
  52.  
  53. This echo is established to permit anyone to submit and/or discuss
  54. tafel information.  The moderator promotes discussions about surname
  55. related information. You will not have constant reminders to take messages
  56. that are not tafels to another echo.
  57.  
  58. COMMERICIALISM AND COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING
  59.  
  60. The moderator neither expressly forbids nor promotes commercialism or
  61. related commercial advertising, but certainly promotes the idea that such
  62. materials should be brief and one-time.  General announcements regarding
  63. file and software products such as computer programs that support the
  64. concepts of tiny tafels and software in place to process tafels are
  65. permitted.  Discussion, comparison and review of such products, provided
  66. they have a tafel application, are encouraged.

  68. ETIQUETTE
  69.  
  70. Users of the echo should show consideration for SysOps who very often
  71. spend their own money to move messages around the world.  Try to avoid
  72. wasting space.  Do not indent left margins, quote too much of a message in
  73. reply, or use unnecessarily big taglines. Informative taglines or
  74. signature lines, giving the names of families you are interested
  75. in, are permitted.

  78. Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
  79. (above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
  80. less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
  81. with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
  82. in messages in this echo.
